How One Horse Amuses Himself - And His Rider.
Horses can be rather creative at times. We know that. And to amuse themselves, they tend to come up with fun little games they play with their owners and riders. I’ve seen a lot of horse and owner games over my years of equestrian experience, but this is a new one on me. Take a look…

This horse was in the cross ties at our barn, Falcon Ridge Stables just north of Atlanta. Apparently, the game went something like “I’ll stick my tongue out the side of my mouth. You try to grab it before I can yank it back in.” No kidding - this went on non-stop for over 10 minutes! Must have been fun for him.
I’ve seen horses come up with some ingenious ways to entertain themselves - and their riders, for that matter. But this is the first time I’ve ever seen one do this. It just goes to show you - as soon as you think you’ve got horse behavior figured out, he’ll find ways to surprise you.
What does your horse do to amuse himself? I’d love to hear from some of you. Just drop short story below, and we’ll all have a smile to share.

My gorgeous mare quite enojys a good giggle at my expense…
she will come right up to me in the paddock, wait til i am within arms reach then pounce backwards, whinnying and squealing.
she never runs away just tends to jump up and down on the spot.
she much looks like a child impatiently throwing a tantrum of excitement.
this goes on for as long as i permit, the only time it will cease is when i pull that magic carrot out of my pocket…
another quirk is that she will not permit the hose near her neck and face, once it come near, she grabs it swiftly in her teeth and attempts to wash her mouth out, or digest it, whichever occurs primary.
she sits there chewing and chewing, and if she gets tired of the hose i am using she will reach over and snatch someone elses hose!!!
ohhh horses, gotta love ‘em!
My horse likes to take brushes and pull the bristles out of them, or thwo the brushes. He is such a wierdo!! He doesn’t eat try to eat the bristles, he just pulls them out and then spits them on the ground.
Very interesting ! I’ve no story to tell now but I’ll come back soon.
